Dhul-Hijjah - The Best 10 Blessed Days

Posted by Naila Ahmed on

With Hajj open to just a few this year due to the corona virus pandemic it has left the Ummah with heartache - may Allah invite us all Allahuma Aameen.  We must take comfort in knowing we can still reap the benefits of the best 10 days of the year - the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah - we must fill these days seeking Allah's reward and mercy.

Allah the Most High & Exalted says: “By the Dawn; By the ten nights”

Surah Al-Fajr 1-2

The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) has said regarding these blessed days:

“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” The people asked , “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said, “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out, giving himself and his wealth up for the cause (of Allah), and came back with nothing.”

Sahih al-Bukhari

Abu Qatadah Al-Ansari raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him)narrated, “The Messenger of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him)was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah (the 9th of the month of Dhul Hijjah). He replied, “Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year.”

Sahih Muslim

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)  commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh ("Subhan-Allaah"), Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah") and Takbeer ("Allaahu akbar") during this time. ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah"), Takbeer and Tahmeed."

(Reported by Ahmad, 7/224; Ahmad Shaakir stated that it is saheeh).
